Physicians’ Participation in Payment Models in 2010 & 2013: 8 Statistics

The percentage of physicians participating in accountable care organizations has increased by nearly 20 percent from 2011 to 2013, according to the Medscape’s 2014 Physician Compensation Report. The report is based on responses from nearly 24,000 physicians in 25 specialties.

Here are eight statistics on physician participation in payment models in 2011 and 2013

Not in ACO but plan to be this year:

• 2011 — 5 percent
• 2013 — 10 percent

Participating in ACO:

• 2011 — 3 percent
• 2013 — 24 percent

Cash-only practice:

• 2011 — 3 percent
• 2013 — 6 percent

Concierge practice:

• 2011 — 1 percent
• 2013 — 3 percent
