mHealth Information Clearinghouse Working Group

The mHealth Information Clearinghouse (Clearinghouse) working group is aimed at establishing a comprehensive resource for accessing culturally and ethnically attuned health information through a wide range of mobile applications and consumer devices. More than just a collection of health content, the Clearinghouse will serve diverse underserved minority populations with multilingual, culturally competent, and low literacy accessible health information. The proposed solution framework is based on a cloud-based information architecture, real-time mobile application technology, and a unique culturally competent content personalization strategy.

The goal of the Clearinghouse is bring together a wide-range of information on health promotion, prevention, lifestyle choices, risk reduction and medical treatment. It will be directly accessible by the public and community-based nonprofit organizations (e.g., promotores, community action agencies, and local health service programs). Ultimately, our aim is to measurably improve health outcomes of underserved and minority populations in the United States by translating a wide-range of existing health information into culturally attuned (i.e., by language, cultural preferences, literacy level, etc.) educational materials that help individuals to understand their health status, goals, use of healthcare services, and the role that they play in their own health outcomes.
