INDUSTRY CALL-FOR-INNOVATION

Logo

Space Technologies and Systems for Federal Government Agencies
Background: Federal government agencies are experiencing an increasing demand for advanced space systems and technology to support mission-critical operations in the evolving space domain. The proliferation of commercial and adversarial space assets necessitates resilient, scalable, and secure capabilities. Enhanced space technologies are vital for maintaining national security, situational awareness, and technological superiority.
Challenges: Major challenges include ensuring the interoperability of new space systems with legacy infrastructure and overcoming the limitations of current space situational awareness tools. Agencies must address the risks of cyber threats, orbital debris, and spectrum congestion that threaten operational continuity. Additionally, the rapid pace of technological advancement requires agile acquisition and integration processes.
Needs: Patriot Labs is interested in innovative space systems and technology that can deliver next-generation capabilities for space technologies and systems. There is a critical need for solutions that enhance resilience, real-time data processing, and autonomous operations in contested and congested space environments. These innovations should directly support federal mission objectives and operational readiness.
Requirements: Preferred technical solutions may employ or include modular, scalable architectures, advanced on-orbit processing, and secure communications for space technologies and systems. Solutions should demonstrate compatibility with existing government platforms and support rapid integration and deployment. Emphasis is placed on technologies that enable persistent monitoring, rapid threat detection, and autonomous response.
Characteristics: Solutions should provide or enable high reliability, low-latency communications, and robust cybersecurity features for space-based operations. They must be adaptable to evolving mission requirements and capable of operating autonomously in denied or degraded environments. Additional desirable characteristics include modularity, upgradability, and support for multi-domain integration.
Benefits: Benefits sought include improved mission assurance, enhanced decision-making through real-time data analytics, and increased operational flexibility for federal agencies. Solutions are expected to reduce lifecycle costs, minimize downtime, and enable rapid response to emerging threats. Demonstrable improvements in situational awareness, resilience, and interoperability are highly valued.
Approaches: Approaches could include leveraging artificial intelligence for autonomous system management, developing modular hardware and software components, and integrating advanced encryption for secure communications. Iterative prototyping, field demonstrations, and collaboration with commercial partners may accelerate technology transition. Emphasis should be placed on open architectures and standards-based integration.
Special Consideration: Special consideration given to solutions that include or enable disruptive advancements such as on-orbit edge computing, self-healing networks, or autonomous threat mitigation for space technologies and systems. Solutions that demonstrate clear pathways to operational deployment and scalability across multiple government missions are highly encouraged.
