INDUSTRY CALL-FOR-INNOVATION

Logo

Propulsion Technologies and Systems for Federal Government Agencies
Background: Federal government agencies are actively seeking advanced propulsion system and power technologies to enhance the performance and efficiency of critical platforms. The demand for next-generation propulsion solutions is driven by evolving mission requirements and the need to maintain technological superiority. Emerging threats and operational scenarios necessitate propulsion technologies and systems that deliver greater power, reliability, and adaptability.
Challenges: By adopting advanced propulsion system and power technologies, federal government agencies can address limitations in range, endurance, and payload capacity. Current propulsion solutions often face constraints related to fuel efficiency, thermal management, and integration with modern power architectures. Overcoming these challenges is essential to support diverse mission profiles and ensure operational readiness in contested environments.
Needs: Patriot Labs is interested in innovative propulsion system and power solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into existing and future propulsion technologies and systems. These solutions should address critical gaps in energy density, modularity, and operational flexibility. The goal is to enable federal government agencies to meet demanding mission requirements with enhanced propulsion performance.
Requirements: Preferred technical solutions may employ or include high-efficiency propulsion architectures, advanced energy storage, and scalable power management systems. Solutions should demonstrate compatibility with a range of platforms and mission environments, while meeting stringent reliability and maintainability standards. Emphasis is placed on modularity, rapid integration, and support for hybrid or multi-mode propulsion concepts.
Characteristics: Solutions should provide or enable increased power-to-weight ratios, reduced logistical footprints, and enhanced operational endurance. They must support rapid deployment, flexible mission adaptation, and seamless integration with digital command and control systems. Additional desirable characteristics include low acoustic and thermal signatures, as well as robust safety and fault-tolerance features.
Benefits: Benefits sought include improved mission effectiveness through greater propulsion efficiency, reduced operational costs, and extended platform lifecycles. Enhanced propulsion and power capabilities will enable new operational concepts, support multi-domain operations, and provide a technological edge in contested environments. Demonstrable improvements in reliability, maintainability, and sustainability are also prioritized.
Approaches: Approaches could include the development of novel propulsion materials, integration of hybrid-electric or alternative fuel systems, and the application of advanced control algorithms for power management. Iterative prototyping, digital twin modeling, and field testing are recommended to validate performance and integration with existing infrastructure. Collaboration with industry and academia may accelerate technology maturation and deployment.
Special Consideration: Special consideration given to solutions that include or enable disruptive propulsion technologies, such as adaptive power systems, AI-driven energy optimization, or breakthrough energy storage innovations that significantly exceed current state-of-the-art capabilities.
